Dreamy Derbyshire Sweet Treats

Calling everyone in Derbyshire with a sweet tooth, this one is for you.

Here are my top three sweet treat stores that i’ll go back to over and over again and constantly recommend. I am a sucker for anything sweet so I’m constantly scouting out all the best sweet treats within the local area. These are all local independent businesses – which I much prefer supporting – hopefully one day they’ll be widely available across the UK so you can all try them out for yourselves. For now, if you live local to Derbyshire or fancy paying a visit you HAVE to try out these places!

Brownie Points Bakery – Derby, United Kingdom

Hands down THE BEST brownies… ever. Brownie Points have absolutely mastered the perfect gooey texture and range of flavours/toppings. They offer a large variety of flavours including: Cookie Dough, Nutella and Oreo as-well as vegan options. In addition to seasonal specials e.g. MaltEaster Bunnies, Mini Eggs, and Creme Eggs.

The pricing is also a god send, varying from £1.60-£2.00, depending which you choose. Hot drinks, pastries, afternoon tea and an extensive range of brownie milkshakes are available in the Intu store alongside the delicious range of brownies.

The only downside is that they only have the one store in Derby, however they do pay regular visits to my University, which is largely dangerous. My boyfriend and I have most probably tried all the different flavours… oops. I’m so obsessed with them that I had no regret in ordering the large Cookie Dough Brownie for my birthday (easily the best birthday cake i’ve ever had).

DoughNotts – Nottingham/ Derby/ Leicester, United Kingdom

These are the most ‘extra’ doughnuts I’ve seen in my whole life, it’s fair to say DoughNotts puts Krispy Kreme to shame. They don’t spare a thing when it comes to putting toppings on these monstrous doughnuts, you’ll find plenty of icing and biscuits, freddos, and sweets. These are just as reasonably priced with plenty of special offers including all doughnuts 3 for £6 in store every Tuesday!

Standard doughnuts include some of the following: Cookie Monster, Salted Caramel, Red Velvet and Jammy Devil. While premium doughnuts include: Cherry Bakewell, Mud Pie, Smarty Pants, Thicka Than A Snicka and many more. A large range of these doughnuts are also vegan friendly, there’s enough to go round for everyone!

Fortunately, DoughNotts has been a great success since opening in 2015 and have expanded across the Midlands with new store openings and regular market stalls around Derbyshire, all in the name of spreading their Doughnut love.

F’Coffee – Matlock / Ashbourne, United Kingdom

F’Coffee definitely put the freak in freakshake, I like to call this place the King of freakshakes. Albeit about 30/40 minutes away from Derby city centre, it’s well worth taking a special trip and Matlock makes a great day out.

They have a great range of crazy options depending how you’d prefer your sugar overload to kick in. Available freakshakes include: Absolutely Minted, Kinder Surprise, Banoffee Pie, Fresh Strawberry, Peanut Butter Cup, Nutella, Oreo and Popscotch. All priced at £6.45 which is an absolute bargain considering how many toppings are piled up!

They can be sickly (as you can imagine), therefore I personally prefer to share, however if you’re up for a challenge… go ahead! There are other delicious options available at F’Coffee for the less sugar-obsessed individuals. As another special treat for the Instagram obsessed people, they have a gorgeous flower arch outside their door and it looks great in pictures!
