Beauty Hacks, Tried and Tested

Over the years we’ve seen some crazy beauty trends pass us by, I mean.. plaited eyebrows(??). As for the beauty hacks that pass us by… they have potential!

We’re all a sucker for any hacks that makes life that little bit easier and our face of make up look that little bit fleekier. Here I’m testing three popular beauty hacks to see if they really do as they claim they do and how successfully.

Hack 1 – Using baby powder for longer looking lashes.

This one claims that if you apply baby powder on your lashes in between coats of mascara your lashes will look longer, without the use of extensions.

I tried this on one eye so I could see a comparison and I have to say I didn’t see much difference. Although I already have quite long lashes which may have affected the outcome. Over the day, the mascara started to go clumpy on the lashes that had baby power on and when it came to taking off the mascara it just seemed a pain having to take off so many layers. I personally wouldn’t use this hack again and would have to class it as a fail.

Hack 2 – Eyeshadow as lipstick.

Apparently if you don’t have a lipstick to match what you’re wearing you can match it to your eyeshadow instead… using your eyeshadow! Applying a layer of lip balm on your lips and then dabbing on the eyeshadow using a brush creates the ‘perfect’ lipstick. Bare in mind eyeshadows have been tested and can be used on lips, however lipstick has not been tested for use on eyes – don’t try doing it the other way round!

I’m not going to lie, I was impressed with this! The colour has come out slightly different which defeats the point if you ask me, but it did work and looked like a lipstick! However, I wouldn’t go out with my lips like this, within the 30 minutes I had it on my lips I found it difficult to maintain, the eyeshadow easily rubbed off on the inner lips and it started to get bitty which is also slightly gross. Plus, if you were out with someone how awkward would ‘touching up your lipstick’ be?! Just hold on a sec while I get my eyeshadow palette out and dab it on my lips – imagine the weird looks!

Hack 3 – Credit card cat eye.

Using a ‘credit card’ up against your eye as a guide helps create the perfect cat eye. Using this guidance means your liner will be on point… apparently.

Admittedly, I am by no means a pro at eye make up (as much as I wish I was), and I’m definitely not good at winged eyeliner that’s for sure. Which made me think this would be the perfect hack to try to see if it makes my wings look any better and I mean they do… slightly, as does my eyeshadow, it does look a lot ‘fleekier’ rather than the usual wonky lines across my face. I would definitely use this again to get a straight wing and a straight cut off with my eyeshadow. (Yes, I did use an IKEA card, no way I’d get make up all over a credit card.)

Overall, these were mostly a success doing what they claim to do. But in terms of whether or not I would use them again… they’re not quite the biggest successes.

It was so good, just frustrating how hard it is to maintain. Perhaps if it was a lighter eyeshadow it might be a little bit easier to manage. Loved reading your post!

  2. I’m useless at doing my eyes, I’m gonna have to try this credit card idea! Love the post.

It’s so fun trying out beauty hacks! I’ve tried the baby powder one and it did actually work really well for me, I didn’t keep it on for long though! The eyeshadow looks so good as a lipstick 😍 but I totally cracked up at the having to fix your lipstick with your eyeshadow in public haha! xx

It’s so interesting to see if they actually have potential or not haha. Oooo, that’s interesting! It’s also slightly odd how they work differently on different people!!

  4. Hahaha I loved this! The eyeshadow lipstick turned out really pretty but I believe that it would be hard to maintain & you’re right that it’d be hard to pull out a palette to touch-up out in public lol.

It’d be perfect if all you wanted to do was have matching lipstick for a picture😂
